The Barry Ashton Memorial Trophy

The 105th meeting of TIGS, and 4th of the season, was held at Garforth Golf Club (Leeds) on Friday 4th July 2008. Despite the weather forecasters prediction of heavy showers we had beautiful sunshine and not many clouds as usual for TIGS our days, and again we had a few sunburnt faces over diner.

Garforth was in really good condition with the greens running about 10 on the Stimp metre (pretty quick), the rough was very lush which is always difficult to play out of. The course is a good test of shot making and thinking your way round, very good value for money.

15 members and 4 guests competed for The Barrie Ashton Memorial Trophy. We had a back to back winner with a superb display of golf and 37 points Gary Hardy, second with 33 points was John Holcroft, and 3rd place went to Dave Nelson on 32 points.

Gary already off a reduced handicap of 3 now loses a further shot to 1.John will have his handicap reduced from 19 to 17.

The winning visitor was Steve Haigh`s guest Darren Emmerson with another superb round and 37 points .Darren will have his handicap reduced from 5 to 3.

The winning better ball team prize was won by Steve Haigh, Darren Emmerson, Dave Rowe and Mike Linwood with a very respectable 84 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by John Holcroft (5th hole) and Simon Leary (16th hole)

Longest drive was won by Chris Harris’s guest Dave Hughes (10th hole)

The next meeting is The Folex International Trophy at Manor of Groves, Herts on Friday 12th September 2008.

Hope to see you all there
