The Cecrisa Trophy |
The 84th
meeting of TIGS, and the fifth of our 17th season, was held at The
Sand Moor Golf Club on Wednesday 24th August 2005. The weather
forecast 48 hours earlier had predicted heavy rain and strong winds; in the
morning there had been very heavy showers, but cometh the hour (or 1.37pm to be
exact) 25 members and 8 guests enjoyed a dry and occasionally warm afternoon.
The course
was not long, but judging by most of the scores, still a reasonable test of
golf. The greens were a little disappointing as they had been recently spiked
and I feel that most of us struggled to get the pace of them.
For the
second time this season (the other being at John O’Gaunt) we had four top-five
players tied on the same score, but the winner of THE CECRISA TROPHY was our
Handicap Secretary Gary Hardy with 36 points and a better back 9 than second
placed Chris Harris. Chris had a better back 9 than Greg Hammond who had a
better back 9 than Mike Dobson. John Povall was 5th with 34 points.
Winning
visitor was Steve Haigh’s guest David Rowe with an incredible 41 points. Simon
Leary’s guest, David Rangeley, came 2nd with 34 points. Mr Rowe’s
handicap is reduced from 21 to 17, Mr Rangeley’s from 18 to 16.
The yellow
ball prize went to Messrs Harris, McLaughlin and Boulton with 37 points.
Nearest
the pin prizes were won by Michael Heath (8th hole) and Steve Haigh
(10th hole). The longest drive competition was won by David Rowe on
the 18th hole.
Michael
Heath put wine on the table for everyone to share. Michael made a short speech
and said that following his recent “near miss”, he was pleased to be back at
a TIGS meeting, enjoying the company of TIGS members. He proposed a toast, which
was supported by us all, to “TIGS!”
The next open TIGS event is at Shifnal Golf Club (Staffs.) on Friday 14th October, which will be followed by the AGM. Put it in your diaries NOW!
