The Cecrisa Trophy |
The 92nd meeting of TIGS, and the sixth of our 18th season, was held at Gog Magog Golf Club, Cambridge on Thursday 7th September 2006. It was a dry, warm day with the occasional appearance of sunshine, although there was a cooling breeze throughout the day.
19 members and 2 guests competed for The Cecrisa Trophy. Gog Magog is a nice golf course, set high among the Gog Magog hills, offering some wonderful far-reaching views. The greens were extremely firm which made it difficult to “hold” the ball, but they were not as fast to putt on as you would have consequently expected. The clubhouse was refurbished prior to the Club’s Centenary in 2001, and was very comfortable.
The winner with 38 points was our Assistant Secretary, Simon Leary, with 38 points. Simon was six points ahead of second-placed Ron Austin (32), who had a better back nine than his brother Peter who was 3rd. Also with 32 points, but with a lesser back nine, was our Captain Gary Hardy (4th). Ashley Heath was 5th with 29 points, and 6th prize was presented to Tony Rogers with 27 points.
Simon has his handicap reduced from 13 to 10. Ron’s handicap is reduced from 8 to 7.
Winning visitor was Peter Austin’s guest, Colin Hall, with 26 points. Colin’s handicap is reduced from 11 to 8.
The yellow ball prize went to Messrs Haigh, Bennel and Leary with 29 points.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by John Holcroft (9th hole) and Gary Hardy (13th hole).
The longest drive competition was won by Colin Hall.
Three players were penalised due to unacceptable slow play. The Committee urges all players to keep up with the game in front, which is not just TIGS etiquette, but the etiquette of golf.
Wine was served with our dinner courtesy of Tony Rogers, in celebration of his forthcoming wedding on Saturday. Thanks and Congratulations Tony!
The next meeting of TIGS (and the last of this season) will be held at Whittington Heath Golf Club (Staffs.) on Thursday 12th October 2006. The Society AGM will take place immediately after the prizegiving.
