Folex Internation Trophy
Friday 12th September 2008
Manor of Groves Hotel
The 106th meeting of TIGS, and 5th of the season, was held at Manor of Groves Hotel (Herts) on Friday 12th September 2008.The weather forcasters once again got it
wrong (thankfully), after a dizzily start the sun appeared and stayed with us all day as normal for a TIGS event.
Manor of Groves didn’t quite meet our expectations; it was a very short course of 5908 yards, which meant you had to plot your way around the many dogleg holes,
but most people enjoyed it and the staff looked after us really well.
15 members and 7 guests competed for the newly named Folex International Trophy. One member who did enjoy the course was Dave Rowe who won with 36points and becomes
our 54th first time winner, second with 35 points was Chris Williams, and 3rd was John Holcroft on 34 points.
Dave will be pleased to know his handicap has been reduced from 21 to 17.Chris will be also pleased his handicap is cut from 28 to 25.
The winning visitor was Ron Austin’s guest Colin Hall with a score of 31 points , second was our Captain’s Tony Rogers guest Maurice Roberts with 30 points.Colin`s
handicap is reduced from 12 to 9 and Maurice will be cut from 19 to 16.
The winning better ball team prize was won by Simon Woodbridge, John Holcroft, Mick Boulton and Simon Leary with a good score of 96 points.
Nearest the pin prizes were won on the 13th hole by Dave Rowe and Ron Harris on the 13th.
Longest drive was won again by Gary Hardy on the 18th hole.
The next meeting is The Staloton Trophy at Lindrick golf course, Notts on Friday 17th October 2008. (The Ryder Cup was played there in 1957)
