Folex Internation Trophy

Friday 18th September 2009
Coxmoor, Notts
This was our 20th anniversary and 112th meeting of TIGS, the 5th of the season, held at Coxmoor Golf Club on Friday 18th September 2009. The weather was absolutely superb for a mid September day lots of sunshine as usual for our TIGS golf days.

TIGS last visited Coxmoor in 1996 and we weren’t disappointed this visit. The course was in very good condition, the greens were very true a quite quick. Coxmoor is not a long course off the yellow tees, but you still have to avoid the gorse bushes and trees. There are a few dog legs and keeping the ball on the fairway is imperative. We had some very good scores with the standard scratch being 32 points very impressive. I would certainly recommend that we should revisit Coxmoor in the future.

22 members and 10 guests competed for The Folex International Trophy, the winner with a superb score of 44points was John Holcroft (he rode home on his horse).2nd with a score of 42 points was Simon Leary 3rd placed Alan Overton with 39 points and 4th was Michael Linwood on 39 points.

John will have his handicap reduced from 19 to 15, while Simon’s handicap is down from 9 to 8.

The winning visitor was Peter Cowle`s guest Paul Cowlishaw with 35 points 2nd with 34 points was Bob Keefe’s Guest Derek Pettigrew. Paul’s handicap will be down from 9 to 7 and Derek’s already reduced handicap will be down 5 to 4.

The winning better ball team prize went to Messer’s Holcroft, Leary, Oakey and Rowe with an impressive score of 113 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Ron Austin’s guest Ron Harris on the 7th hole and Steve Wyatt on the 10th hole.

Nearest the pin in 2 also was won by Gary Hardy on the 15th hole.

Congratulations must go to Steve Haigh on beating Tony Rogers in the final of The Royal Mosa K.O.

Chris Harris one of the founder members of TIGS proposed a toast to celebrate 20 years of TIGS and hoped the society would prosper for another 20 years.

Our next meeting is The Staloton Trophy at Beau Desert on Wednesday 14th October 2009 followed by the AGM.
