The H&R Johnson Trophy |
March 14th
2007.
The 94th meeting of TIGS, and the first of our 19th season, was held at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell), Nottinghamshire on Wednesday 14th March 2007. Having had a very wet Winter, with record rainfall, it was nothing short of a miracle (and a very welcome blessing) to find Hollinwell bathing in glorious Spring sunshine. I would suggest that it was the warmest day of the year, so far, with many of us playing in shirt sleeves.
31 members and 4 guests competed for The H&R Johnson Trophy. The course was in outstanding condition bearing in mind the heavy recent rainfall, and I doubt that there is any golf course in England which is better condition at this time. I could not believe the fairways were so dry, nor how quick the greens were.
The winner with 39 points was Steve Wyatt. Second with 37 points was Mike Linwood. In 3rd position with 34 points was Stephen Haigh. Stephen had a better back nine than 4th placed Ed Winn, who had a better back nine than 5th placed John Povall.
Steve has his handicap reduced from 10 to 8. Mike’s handicap is reduced from 10 to 9.
Winning visitor was Darren Emmerson’s guest, Lee Grant, with 27 points. Lee has his TIGS handicap reduced from 2 to scratch!
The yellow ball prize went to Messrs Hammond, Brown, Clough and Faux with 35 points.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Steve Wyatt (9th hole) and Garry Moffatt (13th hole).
The longest drive competition was won by Steve Wyatt (18th hole).
The next TIGS meeting will be held at Forest Pines Golf and Country Club Hotel, North Lincolnshire on Wednesday 18th April 2007.
