March 19th 2008.  

The 102nd meeting of TIGS, and the 1st of our 20th season, was held at Walton Heath Golf Club (Surrey) on Wednesday 19th March 2008.The day was dry, but cloudy with a cold wind swirling around.

It was the first time TIGS have visited Walton Heath. The hospitality and catering were first class. The golf course was in excellent condition after all the rain there has been in the last couple of weeks, it was a typical heath land course with lots of gorse and very deep bunkers. A very difficult test of golf.

20 members and 7 guests competed for the H & R Johnson Trophy. We had our 52nd first time winner with 35 points, Brian Painter. In 2nd place with 32 points was Ian Webber. Ian had a better back nine than 3rd placed Dave Rowe.4th was Gary Hardy with 30 points.

Brian has his handicap reduced from 22 to 18.Ian`s handicap is reduced from 10 to 9.

Winning visitor was Steve Haigh`s guest, Cliff Homersham with 34 points. Cliff has his handicap reduced from 12 to 9.

The yellow ball team prize was won by Gary Hardy, Brian Painter and Dave Bird.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Steve Haigh (7th hole) and Steve’s guest Cliff Homersham (17th hole).

The longest drive was won by Gary Hardy`s guest Dave Bird (18th hole).

The next meeting is The Lionel Ramus Trophy at Beau Dessert Golf Club Staffs on Wednesday 9th May 2008. Hope to see you there.
