The Lionel Ramus Trophy

April 21st 2006

The 88th meeting of TIGS, and the second of our 18th season, was held at The Alwoodley Golf Club on Friday 21st April 2006. God was certainly on our side – the weather forecast was dreadful and most of us had driven through persistent rain to get to the venue. However, cometh the hour, the rain stopped and we all stayed dry for the duration of our rounds. In fact, some of us finished playing in short-sleeved shirts!

22 members and 5 guests participated in our competition. We were all delighted with the layout of the course, most of us were satisfied with the condition of the course, but we all accepted that (for this time of year) it could hardly have been any better. The tees and fairways were in excellent condition, typical of this moorland-style course.

The winner of The Lionel Ramus Trophy with 34 points was Adrian Hinchliffe. Dave Nelson was second with 33 points. Third with 32 points was John MacLaughlin who had a better back nine than fourth placed Eddie Winn. Fifth was Michael Heath with 30 points.

Adrian has his handicap reduced from 8 to 6. Dave’s handicap is reduced from 11 to 9.

Winning visitor was Adrian Hinchliffe’s guest, S.Roberts, with 34 points. Eddie Winn’s guest, Graham Leonard, came 2nd with 31 points. Mr Roberts’s handicap is reduced from 9 to 7, Mr Leonard’s from 9 to 8.

The yellow ball prize went to Messrs Heath, Heath, Butcher and Whiteley with 31 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Graham Leonard (7th hole) and John MacLaughlin (11th hole).

The longest drive competition was won by Graham Leonard.

A complaint regarding slow play had been made by a member. The Secretary reminded all members that slow play is unacceptable; experience players should assist less-experienced players with the TIGS Ettiquette, in particular with the fact that players should “pick up” if they are unable to score on a hole.

The next regular meeting of TIGS will be at Copt Heath Golf Club (near Birmingham) on Wednesday 7th June 2006.

(Secretary’s note: Unfortunately, the members 3rd and 4th placed prizes were announced in the incorrect order at the meeting. Apologies to all those concerned.)
