The Lionel Ramus Trophy

The 95th meeting of TIGS, and the second of our 19th season, was held at Forest Pines Golf & Country Club Hotel, North Lincolnshire on Wednesday 18th April 2007. There are three loops of nine at Forest Pines; we played the Forest and Beeches loops. It was a beautifully clear and bright Spring day, but with a cool breeze.

20 members and 4 guests competed for The Lionel Ramus Trophy. The course beautifully winds its way through the trees with a pleasant variety of hole layouts – some short, others long, some dog-leg left, others dog-left right. Very enjoyable and picturesque. However, the greens were woefully slow and tainted my overall impression of the venue.

The winner with 34 points was Ian Tinling. This is Ian’s first TIGS victory, and he becomes our 48th winner. In 2nd place with 33 points was Michael Heath who had a better back nine than 3rd placed Simon Leary. In 4th position with 32 points was Darren Emmerson. Dave Nelson came 5th with 30 points. Dave had a better back nine than several others with the same total.

Ian has his handicap reduced from 18 to 15. Michael’s handicap is reduced from 7 to 6.

Winning visitor was Darren Emmerson’s guest, Bob Cox, with 34 points. Bob has his TIGS handicap reduced from 12 to 9.

The yellow ball team prize was won by Messrs Emmerson, Cox, Tinling and Roberts with 34 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Simon Leary (8th hole) and Phil Breakspear (18th hole).

The longest drive competition was won by Jon Povall (13th hole).

The next TIGS meeting will be held at Tadmarton Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire on Wednesday 16th May 2007.
