The Lionel Ramus Trophy |
The 103rd meeting of TIGS, and 2nd of the season, was held at Beau Desert Golf Club (staffs) on Friday 9th May 2008.It started to rain just as The Captain was teeing off, but in true TIGS tradition the sun soon came out making for a glorious day leaving most of us with beetroot red faces.
The course is fantastic with a superb back drop over looking Cannock Chase with all the wildlife and woodland, it is a very testing golf course with undulating greens a bit like Augusta, but trickier.
30 members and 9 guests competed for The Lionel Ramus Trophy. We had our 53rd first time winner with a magnificent score of 37 points Simon Woodbridge. Simon had a better back 9 than 2nd place Mike Linwood who also had a magnificent 37 points.3rd place was Gary Hardy on 35points 4th was Dave Rowe on 34 points and a better back nine than 5th placed Simon Leary also 34points.
Simon will have his handicap reduced from 28 to 24.Mike already off a reduced handicap has it cut by a further shot down from8 to 7.
The winning visitor was our captain’s guest Chris Fisher with 33 points, 2nd was Dave Nelson’s guest Darren Irving on 32 points. Chris has his handicap reduced from 13 to 10 and Darren’s has been cut from 16 to 14.
The yellow ball team prize was won by Fred Gregg, Pete Austin, Brian Painter and Sid Cumine.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Geoff Snape (3rd hole) and Gary Hardy (16th hole)
The longest drive was won by Chris Harris (15th hole)
We also had a HOLE IN ONE on the 10th hole from our treasurer Dave Nelson in true fashion Dave did buy everyone a drink. Congratulations Dave.
The Captain asked all the members to return there forms and cheques before attending the event as it makes the treasurer’s job a lot easier.
The next meeting is the Michael Heath Trophy at Whittington Heath Golf Club Staffs on Thursday 5th June 2008
Hope to see you all there
