The 89th meeting of TIGS, and the third of our 18th season, was held at Copt Heath Golf Club on Wednesday 7th June 2006. We had incredible weather. The sun shone all day (on some more than others) with temperatures around 25 degrees.

24 members and 5 guests competed for The Michael Heath Trophy. The course was in very good condition, the greens especially so. They were very true, and fairly fast, but firm. The course is not a long parkland venue, but extensive bunkering and narrow fairways meant that accuracy was certainly required for a good score. Copt Heath also have a large, sprawling clubhouse with good, modern facilities.

The winner with 38 points was our Captain, Gary Hardy. Tony Rogers was second with 37 points. Third with 36 points was new member, Peter Hughes. Fourth was Mike Linwood with 35 points, one ahead of fifth placed Tim Venner (another new member).

Gary has his handicap reduced from 4 to 2. Tony’s handicap is reduced from 16 to 14.

Winning visitor was Stephen Haigh’s guest, Jon Evans, with 31 points. Geoff Snape’s guest, Brian Hughes, came 2nd with 29 points. Jon’s handicap is reduced from 12 to 10, Brian’s from 7 to 6.

The yellow ball prize went to Messrs Austin, Wilkins, Haigh and Evans with 33 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Simon Leary (5th hole) and Tim Venner (13th hole).

The longest drive competition was won by Simon Leary.

Following the competition, we enjoyed an excellent meal served in a very welcoming air-conditioned restaurant.
