The Michael Heath Trophy
The 104th meeting of TIGS, and 3rd of the season, was held at Whittington Heath Golf Club (staffs) on Thursday 5th June 2008. It was a very warm and sunny day with a breeze which kept a couple of big black clouds away, but again we were blessed in TIGS fashion with a good day with a few red faces over dinner.

Whittington Heath is a tough golf course with very narrow fairways and long rough, the greens were fast and true and in superb condition, although the bunkers could have been better. We received a very hospitable welcome from all the staff at Whittington probably second to none.

We had a better ball competion in the morning which was won by Paul Butcher, Gary Hardy and new member Mark Rahman on 44 points.

20 members and 4 guests competed for the Michael Heath Trophy .The winner who had only just been given his shots back with a superb score of 37 points was Gary Hardy, second with a very respectable 34 points was Fred Gregg, and 3rd place went to John Holcroft on 33 points.

Gary will be pleased to know his handicap has been reduced from 5 to 3.Fred will be equally pleased to have know his handicap is cut from 15 down to 13.

The winning visitor was our captain’s guest Mike Wickings with 34 points. Mike will have his handicap reduced from 6 to 4.

The yellow ball team prize was won by John Holcroft, Paul Butcher, Chris Harris and Doug Wilkins with 27 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Geoff Snape (4th hole) and Gary Hardy (13th hole)

The longest drive was won b Ashley Heath (18th hole), Ashley also holed his second shot on the difficult 6th hole for an eagle and 5 points (well done Ash)

The next meeting is The Barry Ashton Memorial Trophy at Garforth, Leeds on Friday 4th July 2008.
