Society Challenge - Invitational

April 3rd 2008

At last a TIGS win, after 5 tries the 6th proved successful, our Captain selected and lead a team capable of winning the Folex International Trophy. The Annual Challenge between the 3 Societies was held in "Millionaires Row" namely St George's Hill, Weybridge, Cliff Richard apparently has his home overlooking the Golf Course. Another excellent day - dry, overcast but warm enough to allow good Golf to be played. The TIGS team consisting of The Captain Tony Rogers, Peter Austin, Gary Hardy, Fred Gregg, Ashley & Michael Heath, Simon Leary & Steve Haigh won with 151 points, 3 points ahead of MOGGS & 6 points ahead of MRGS, this was the closest fault battle since the Trophy was inaugurated 6 years ago.

The Stars of the TIGS Team were the pairing of Simon Leary & Steve Haigh who amassed 43 points, Simon played extremely well as we all know he can but Steve supported him admirably. The other successful pairing was the Heath Family, Michael holding them together on the front 9 & Ashley contributing well on the back 9 with a score of 40 points. Gary Hardy & Fred Gregg scored well with The Captain Peter Austin making a contribution to the Team effort.

The course is fantastic and the hospitality second to none, for those who like there Golf then St George's Hill is a must for everyone.

For those that wonder who MOGGS & MRGS are then, MOGGS is a Society based in Cannock called Morris Ground Golfing Society Cannock Hockey Club Ground and MRGS is Mahogany Run Golf Society named after a Golf course in the Virgin Islands but now only meet once a year to play this Challenge.

Congratulations to the Team.
